Hello Everyone back to my blog again. this time we will learn together about news items part 2 And part 3

Language features of News Item Text

  • Use past tenses (the simple past, the past continuous, the past perfect).
  • Use action verbs (go, walk, run, eat, drive, ride, etc.)
  • Use saying verbs (tell, say, shout, answer, complain, etc.)
  • Use adverbs of manner (happily, joyfully, slowly, fast, etc.)
  • Use adverbs of time and place (one day, after the lesson, in the classroom, through the green grass, etc.)
  • Use adjective to form noun phrase (a beautiful, sunny day; a large, green field; a white, shady beach)
  • Use conjunction to link sentences (and, but, so, because, for, or)
  • Use time connectives (after that, meanwhile, the next morning, then, finally, next, at the end)
  • Use pronoun (he, she, they, them, his, her, him, them, we, our, my)
  • Use passive voice (Seven people were killed in collision... , The museum was built in...)

Characteristics of News Item

  • Title

The title of the news is the core of the happenings. The title summarise the sequence of events presented. The title may be sentence or a noun phrase.

  • Opening

It contains place, time, purpose or reason, and main problem.

  • Content

It is the extension of the opening. The content of the news must be facts, including informants' opinion towards the events. The use of reported speech to refer the informants' statement, opinion, or criticism is really needed.

Examples of News Item Text

A Man With Driver License Suspensions Arrested
A man was arrested by Nassau County police on Monday night. He was accused of driving his car with the driver’s license suspensions.
The man who is from Long Island was arrested after police pulled him over for defecting a brake light. The police checked the ma's DMV record and noticed that he had driver's license suspensions. He was driving illegally. With suspended driver's license, it meant that the man had not a valid license and could not legally drive his vehicle.
A spokesman of The DMV said that Williams did not have his valid license in New York, but he continued to drive.

Descriptive Text  Hello Everyone back to my blog again. this time we will learn together about Descriptive Text Definition of Descriptive Text Descriptive Text is a type of text in English that clearly describes the properties inherent in something, be it humans, animals, plants, or inanimate objects.   Teks Explanation  Acid rain is rain that is highly acidic because of sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and other air pollutants dissolved in it. Normal rain is slightly acidic, with a pH of 6. Acid rain may have a pH value as low as 2.8. Acid rain can severely damage both plant and animal life. Certain lakes, for example, have lost all fish and plant life because of acid rain. Acid rain comes from sulfur in coal and oil. When they burn, they make sulfur dioxide (SO2 ). Most sulfur leaves factory chimneys as the gaseous sulfur dioxide (SO2 ) and most nitrogen are also emitted as one of the nitrogen oxides (NO or NO2 ), both of which are gasses. The gasses may be dry deposited–absorbed directly by the land, by lakes or by the surface vegetation.
