Definition of Descriptive Text
Descriptive Text is a type of text in English that clearly describes the properties inherent in something, be it humans, animals, plants, or inanimate objects. The purpose of this text is to provide clear information about the object described to the reader.
Characteristics of Descriptive Text
1. Using Simple Present Tense
This text uses the Simple Present Tense because we will describe the facts attached to an object, and one of the functions of the Simple Present Tense itself is to show a fact or truth.
Suppose you want to describe your bed, you can use the sentence: The color of my bedroom is blue.
2. Using many adjectives (adjectives).
Because the function of this text is to provide information by describing an object being described, in Descriptive Text, there will be many adjectives. Examples are big, small, colorful, and so on.
3. Use connecting verbs.
A relative verb is a verb that gives an explanation to the noun that is the subject of a sentence. For example: is, have, seem, appear, and other verbs.

Generic Structure of Descriptive Text
The descriptive text has its own rules regarding its structure. The following is the generic structure of the descriptive text:
1. Identification
This section, located in the first paragraph, aims to identify an object to be described. Identification serves to introduce the reader to the object that we will describe before we tell about the object in more detail in the next paragraph.
2. Description
This section, located in the second paragraph and so on, contains the characteristics inherent in something that you have introduced to the reader in the first paragraph.
Language Feature of Descriptive Text
– The use of the adjective (an adjective) to clarify the noun, for example, a beautiful beach, a handsome man, the famous place in Jepara, etc.
– The use of simple present tense: The sentence pattern used is simple present because it tells the fact of the object described.
– Action verb: verbs that show an activity (for example, run, sleep, walk, cut, etc….)

The example text above is an example of a descriptive text because it provides information about the object being described, namely Jember Regency. In addition, the text also has a structure and characteristics that are by the structure and characteristics possessed by Descriptive Text.

Structure:
1. Identification (first paragraph)
This section introduces the reader to Jember Regency which we will explain in detail in the next paragraph.
2. Description (second paragraph)
Contains an explanation or description of Jember Regency by describing some information such as:
1)Jember Regency has great places to visit.
2)Jember Regency has an annual international-class fashion exhibition event.
3)Jember Regency has cultural acculturation called Pendhalungan.

Orchard Road
Orchard Road is a Boulevard that becomes a business and entertainment center in Singapore. Orchard Road is surrounded by lush tropical and flower gardens which are beautiful. At first, Orchard Road is just a suburban street lined with orchards, plantations nutmeg, and pepper farming. However, in the 1970s, it turned into a shopping center in Singapore. In 1960 and 1970 entertainment industries began to enter this road. Shopping centers such as mall and Plaza was built in 1974.
Orchard Road runs along about 2.2 km. This road is a one-way street flanked by a variety of shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants. The shopping area which is nearly 800,000 square meters provides a wide range of Things, food, and entertainment. In this area, many options can satisfy visitors from all walks of life starting from the luxury branded things to the Popular branded, from exclusive restaurants to fast food.
There are so many ways that can be accessed to get to Orchard road such as: by taxi, bus, or drive your own car. Those who are driving to Orchard Road can be entered from the west through Napier Road. Vehicles from Dunearn Road can turn to the left at the intersection of the Marriott Hotel junction. Vehicles that come from Paterson can turn right onto Orchard Road. Orchard is always crowded so you have to be careful in order not to get lost.
